The Village Gallery
120 Dickenson Street, Lahaina, Maui
In August of 2023, the Village Gallery was burned to the ground by a fire which destroyed nearly the entire town of Lahaina. All of my existing work in the gallery was lost. Prior to this event, I had enjoyed an excellent relationship with the gallery since 1997, under the direction of the gallery's owner Lynn Shue - Lynn escaped the fire safely, and I was relieved to learn that no one associated with the gallery died in the blaze, despite an otherwise shocking loss of life in Lahaina.
Lynn is the most honest, most generous and most reliable person that I've ever worked with in the art business, and I'm so grateful to her for the many years of representation at Village Gallery, where she helped me to start my career. Without her, my life would have been quite different, and not for the better. Thank you, Lynn!
Several important works of mine were lost in the disaster; these include "Shore of Eden," a large oil painting and one of my personal favorites - I was especially sorry to lose that one. Other notable works there included "Survivor" and "From the Center of the Earth." About 12 to 14 of my paintings were lost altogether, to the best of my knowledge. Many other artists, as well, lost staggering amounts of their work in the fire, and I want to extend my best wishes to all of them.
