Celtic Crosses
of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery

Many ornate Celtic crosses can be found in the cemetery, often tucked away in hidden places where they wait to be discovered among the vegetation.  These crosses of Irish and Scottish inspiration typically feature elaborate, graceful carvings of Celtic knots: rope-like designs which, having neither beginning nor end, are generally interpreted to represent eternity.

This monument to the Scottish-born philanthropist Andrew Carnegie is the best-known Celtic Cross in the cemetery.
