The Glens Natural Area, a Waterfall Wonderland

Ricketts Glen State Park boasts 22 named waterfalls, most of which can be seen along a loop walk of only three miles.  Despite the fact that this is one of the finest waterfall walks in the nation, I emerged from this park with only one photo worth sharing with you.  The reason?  It was too sunny.  Seriously.  Waterfalls tend to photograph poorly in bright sunlight, and there was plenty of that during my brief visit here.  There were also a lot of other photographers like me, often standing in the way of an otherwise promising shot.  My advice: go on a cloudy day, and go early before everyone else arrives. 

Still, in a shady ravine, I did manage to snap a shot that captures the unique caramel-color of the water in this area:

Since I came up with so little to show you here, I can recommend another source.  A talented photographer named Binh Ly has some fine shots of this area on his own website: Binh Ly Waterfall Photography.  His shots of the area convinced me that this was a worthwhile place to dedicate some time.

The rural Pennsylvania countryside surrounding the park is also scenic.  Along the way to the park, near the town of Benton, I stopped to photograph this enchanted structure:
